Evgenios Voulgaris, Archbishop of Cherson (1716-1806)

Evgenios Voulgaris was headmaster of Athonias Academy during the years 1753 to 1759, but he taught at other schools as well. Finally, he found a welcome haven in Russia and, despite his advanced age, was elected Bishop of Cherson. The letter in which he explains his reason for resigning as headmaster of the Athonias School is preserved at the Monastery.
