Neophytos prohegumenos of Vatopaidi (†1885)
Neophytos originated from Mesaipolis in the province of Prousa. He studied at the Rizareios School and then at the Theological School of the University of Athens. He served as teacher at the school in Vatopaidi Monastery, as accountant for the Monastery, as its representative at Karyes, and as prohegumenos. He was assigned by the Holy Community as an agent of the Holy Mountain in Thessaloniki, where he died at the age of forty. He took on the transfer of the library from the katechumena above the katholikon church to the Tower of the Birth of the Theotokos, as well as the arrangement of the manuscripts and printed books in alphabetical order. He compiled the first hand-written catalogs of printed books and manuscripts of the Monastery’s library.
