Grigorios, Metropolitan of Adrianople

Grigorios Metropolitan of Adrianople came from Neochori of Constantinople and was the brother of the New-Martyr Theodoros of Byzantium. He studied in Constantinople, occupying himself with Byzantine music, and was raised to the office of Great Archdeacon (1813–1818). He was appointed Metropolitan of Tiberiopolis and Stromnitsa (1818–1830) and later of Adrianople (1830–1840). After his resignation from the Metropolitan Throne he withdrew to Vatopaidi Monastery, where he lived the last twenty years of his life, reposing in 1860. He financially supported various projects of the Monastery and composed liturgical texts.
