Afterwards he was elected Metropolitan of Meleniko, and in 1769 he was transferred to the Metropolis of Thessaloniki. In 1780 he resigned and retired to Vatopaidi Monastery. He was a dynamic personality with regards to studies and Greek education and never lost interest in their progress. Moved by the Kollyvades Movement during the time he was a student at Athoniada, but also as a retired hierarch, he assisted in the spiritual regeneration of the Holy Mountain, pressing for and taking an active role in the return of the cenobitic system to the monasteries of Xenophontos, Esphigmenou, Koutloumousiou and Karakallou. He was tonsured a Great Schema monk at the Vatopaidi Skete of Saint Demetrius, receiving the name, monk Daniil. He reposed in 1801.
