Philotheus from Mudanya of Bithynia (1760-1805)
Philotheus was descended from Mudanya of Bithynia, and his earlier mention as a Baptidean monk dates back to 1760 when he returned from the ceremony to the region of his particular homeland, Mudanya, as a clergyman. The journey to return to the same region was resumed in 1769. Gradually he was shown to a significant person of the brotherhood, because from 1780 and for fifteen years as 1805 (with minor interruptions in 1796 and 1799-1801) as a former occupier of the right the patron who is the leader in a particular monastery in that place. He is particularly active in the Renaissance work carried out in the monastery. On the basis of the data supplied by the Philotheus, the donors are encouraged to take initiatives to realize: a) the fresco of the chapel of St. Nicholas to the catholic of the monastery (1780); b) the completion of the damaged parts of the frescoes of the main church of the Catholic (1788); (c) the carving of the church of the Catholic (1788); (d) the construction of the chapel of Aghios Andreas (1788); and (e) the construction of the same chapel of which he built the old As sisters of the Monastery Metropolitan Gerasimos Drama. (f) Although it has not shown any evidence of any sign to link Philotheus to the scholarship program of the School of Architecture which has been performed in the years of its existence as a guardian, it is undoubtedly certain that its building complex was one of the priorities of its activities. Philotheus himself was the sponsor of a large-scale project, the rebuilding of the monastery’s bank (1785), as well as the fact that it was painted by painter Makarios by Galatista (1786). A chart of money within the Bank is carried out by the Bank of Andros. In 1794, with the same expenses, he built the chapel of the Five Martyrs (Eustratius, Auxentios, Egeion, Mardarios and Perestos) in the worship of the monastery, under the obligation to perform the worship of the people in memory of him and his parents . At the same time he also financed the construction of the fountain next to the bell tower. The philosopher, whose name is always written by the immense reference of his place of origin (Philotheus of Mudanya), must have died after 1805.
