Agapios prohegumenos of Vatopaidi (†1873)

Agapios prohegumenos of Vatopaidi (†1873)

Agapios was born in Ravna (present day Petrokerasa) of Chalkidiki near the end of the eighteen century. He went to Vatopaidi Monastery and was tonsured a monk before 1821. He was ordained a hieromonk and later became a prohegumenos. In 1858 he was already Abbot of the Monastery of Barboiu in Iasi. He donated the two great candlestands in the katholikon church, those supported by lions. In 1860 he donated the silver font for the Great Blessing of the Water on Theophany and for the blessing of water on Tuesday of Bright Week. He also offered a precious Gospel Book (of 1776), liturgical vessels (1846), and a manuscript “Stichirarion” to the parish church of his village, which had been shot up in 1821.
