First reference of the Monastery in a manuscript signed by founder Holy Xenophon.
1018
Theodoros, the founder’s brother, undertakes the abbotship.
1078
Drouggarios Stefanos becomes a monk under the name Symeon and becomes the second founder of the Monastery. He leaves at 1081 and comes back at 1089.
1285
The Monastery is conquered by pirates.
1307
The Monastery is plundered by Katalan Λεηλασία από Καταλανούς mercenaries.
1322
Gifts with chrysobull from emperor Andronikos Paleologos II.
1352
Gifts with chrysobull from Serbian Stefano Dousan.
1424
Mount Athos falls under Ottoman administration.
1513/4
Gifts with chrysobull from Neagoe Basarab.
1607
Radu Serban, ruler of Vlachia, starts annual sponsorship to the Monastery.
1636
Mattheos Basarab, ruler of Vlachia, keeps the annual sponsorship.
1658
Micahel Radou, ruler of Vlachia, confirms with chrysobull his previous sponsorships as well as of other rulers of Vlachia, which include large amounts of money, two villages and large land areas for exploitation.
1784
The communal order is restored in the Monastery after a sigillium by Patriarch Gabriel IV. Monk Paisios the Kaysokalybitis is declared as the abbot of the Monastery. Building works of new wings of the new Cathedral are initiated.
1799-1802
The new wall at the north and west of the impressive south wing is established.
1817
Devastating fire destroys the southwest wing. Considerable amounts of manuscripts and other relics are lost.
1821-1822
Active participation in the Greek Revolution of 1821 against the Ottomans. As a consequence, monks are forced to leave the Monastery finding shelter in the island of Skopelos.
1830
Return of the monks to the Monastery. Reconstruction works are initiated.
1835
The new Cathedral is completed.
1836
Seizure of the Monastery’s Metochis in Romania.
1976
Arrival of the new company under abbot Alexios from the Great Meteoron.
1998
Celebration of the Monastery’s millenium.
