ECCLESIASTICAL ART

The Monastery possesses a large number of various types of artefacts which serve as irrefutable witnesses of its rich history from the time of its founding until today. Gifts from emperors, relics of saints, holy objects, precious vessels, portable icons of unparalleled historical and artistic value, goldwork embroidered fabrics and vestments, richly decorated Gospel covers, and a particularly rich collection of imperial chrysobulls, patriarchal edicts, handwritten codices, important documents relating to the monastery and ownership issues, as well as both Slavic and Ottoman documents, comprise the wealth of heirlooms of the Monastery, and distinguish it as being one of the most important on Mt Athos.
